To download the latest version of this document and the other Compliance Accelerator release notes, or to obtain Japanese, Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese versions, see article TECH147785 on the Symantec Enterprise Support site.

For the latest news about this release, including any hotfixes, subscribe to http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH147786.

Note: If you downloaded the original version of Enterprise Vault 9.0.4 on or before 28 June 2012 (version 9.0.4.1095), you must download the updated version of Enterprise Vault that fixes the issue described in http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH192064. This issue did not affect Compliance Accelerator. If you installed the original 9.0.4 version of Compliance Accelerator, there is no need to update it.

This document describes how to upgrade an existing installation of Compliance Accelerator to version 9.0.4.

See the ReadMeFirst file and Installation Guide for information on the following:

The ReadMeFirst file is included as CAReadMeFirst_en.htm on the release media. The Installation Guide is in the Documentation folder on the release media.

For information on the new features and fixes contained in version 9.0.4, see the Symantec Compliance Accelerator™ 9.0.4 document. This is included as CAUpdates_en.htm on the release media.

Note the following important points about the version of Enterprise Vault that you install on the Compliance Accelerator server:

See the Compatibility Charts for more information about supported versions.

Before you begin

Before you upgrade to Compliance Accelerator 9.0.4, we recommend that you do the following:

Steps to upgrade your Compliance Accelerator system

Upgrading a Compliance Accelerator database that contains millions of items can take several hours to complete. During the upgrade process there are several pauses that may give you the impression that it has stopped prematurely. We recommend that you perform the upgrade at a quiet time and allow it to run through to completion. Ideally, seek the assistance of Symantec Consulting Services when upgrading.

See the Installation Guide for more information on how to perform the following steps.

To upgrade your system to Compliance Accelerator 9.0.4

  1. Log on to the Compliance Accelerator server as the Vault Service account.
  2. If you have also upgraded your Enterprise Vault environment, upgrade the Enterprise Vault components on your Compliance Accelerator server to match the other Enterprise Vault servers in the site.

See the documentation that accompanies Enterprise Vault for guidelines on how to upgrade it.

  3. Start the Compliance Accelerator server installation program (Symantec Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator Server_language.msi).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. When the installation process has completed, open the Accelerator Manager Web site (typically, http://server_name/EVBAAdmin).
  6. Click Update to update the configuration database.
  7. IMPORTANT: Follow the on-screen instructions to restart the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service. You can use the Services snap-in to Microsoft Management Console to do this.

Do not skip this step, as you may experience problems if you do.

  8. In the Accelerator Manager Web site, click OK.
  9. Click Upload License to import your license key file for Compliance Accelerator 9.0.4.
  10. To upgrade each customer database, follow these steps:

    1. In the left pane of the Accelerator Manager Web site, right-click the name of the customer database and then click Properties.
    2. In the Customer dialog box, click Upgrade.
    3. Monitor the upgrade progress until it has completed and the customer status is Running.
  11. Use the Accelerator Manager Web site to re-upload the Compliance Accelerator report templates to your SQL reporting server.

Compliance Accelerator 9.0.4 includes some updates to existing report templates. To make the updated templates available, you must upload them to your reporting server.

  12. Upgrade the Journaling Connector on each computer where you have installed it by running the supplied installation program (Symantec Enterprise Vault Journal Connector.msi).
  13. Install the Compliance Accelerator client software on the computer of each user who will be running the client. The Compliance Accelerator release media include two packages with which you can install the client software on your users' computers:

One advantage of using the MSI installer package is that it lets you install the client software on a per-user or per-machine basis, whereas ClickOnce installations are on a per-user basis only. On the other hand, ClickOnce provides the ease of deployment of Web applications and makes it simple to distribute updates to the Compliance Accelerator client.

IMPORTANT: The version of the client software that you install on your users' computers must exactly match that of the Compliance Accelerator server software on the Compliance Accelerator server.
