For more information on the features described below, see the supplied documentation.
You now have the option to restrict the scope of a case-level or folder-level search to certain archives only. By default, when you conduct a search, Discovery Accelerator searches all the archives in the vault stores selected for the case. This can be time-consuming if Discovery Accelerator must search many thousands of archives unnecessarily. When only a small number of archives interest you, you may therefore find it desirable to target the search at them.
This feature is available if you have a new permission, Select Archives in Search, in the case or folder in which you want to search. You also require the Search permission. Note that the Select Archives in Search permission is not associated with any user role by default.
This feature is not available when you define the criteria for a scheduled search; you can use it when you set up immediate searches only.
In earlier versions of Discovery Accelerator, when you defined the criteria for a search or analytics rule, you nominated the custodians for whom you wanted to search by specifying their Display Names. If you prefer to search for custodians by an attribute other than Display Name, Custodian Manager now lets you set that attribute as the primary.
The Display Name and Employee ID attributes are the only standard custodian attributes that you can set as the primary attribute. However, you can set any custom attribute as the primary attribute.
After you set an attribute as the primary attribute, you must restart the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service on all Discovery Accelerator servers, and restart all Discovery Accelerator clients.
In large Active Directory environments containing many thousands of objects, the synchronization process by which Custodian Manager retrieved those objects and compared them with the objects in its database could take many hours to complete. To avoid this issue, Custodian Manager now performs incremental synchronization. This process retrieves only those Active Directory objects that have changed since the last synchronization. Note that this enhancement is available for Active Directory synchronization only, and not for Domino LDAP synchronization.
Two new Profile Synchronization settings in Custodian Manager let you configure Active Directory synchronization.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Active Directory synchronization interval (hours) | Specifies the frequency with which to synchronize Custodian Manager with the Active Directory domain. Enter a value in the range 1 through 24 hours. The default is 8 hours. |
| Time to wait before full synchronization (hours) | Specifies how long Custodian Manager should wait before it performs
a full synchronization with the Active Directory domain, if the domain
controller or Global Catalog server has changed. Enter a value in the
range 2 through 96 hours. The default is 36 hours. You may want to use this setting if your chosen Active Directory domain is down for maintenance and temporarily redirected to another domain. When Custodian Manager detects the new domain controller or Global Catalog server, it performs a full synchronization with Active Directory. In large environments that contain many thousands of Active Directory objects, this process can take many hours to complete. So, you can prevent unnecessary synchronization attempts by increasing the wait time. |
In addition, Custodian Manager can now automatically deactivate custodians and custodian groups whose details have been moved to the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory. A prerequisite of this facility is that the user account under which Custodian Manager synchronizes custodians has the "Read Property" and "List Content" permissions on the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory.
The following article on the Microsoft Web site describes how to change the permissions on the Deleted Objects container:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816824(WS.10).aspx
Note that in step 3 of the procedure, where you grant a non-Administrator security principal permission to view the objects in the Deleted Objects container, you must assign the "Read Property" and "List Content" permissions to the user account under which Custodian Manager synchronizes custodians. By default, this is the service account under which the Accelerator Manager service is running.
With Enterprise Vault 10.0, you can migrate the indexes of various archives from 32-bit to 64-bit indexing. Discovery Accelerator uses the index volume information when you conduct a search of the archives. If you undertake a search before Discovery Accelerator has completed the process of synchronizing with the 64-bit indexed archives, the search may fail.
To avoid this issue, Discovery Accelerator automatically synchronizes the migrated index volumes when you conduct a search. This allows the search to recover automatically when it encounters an unknown index volume.
A new configuration setting lets you enable or disable this feature. To access the setting, click the Configuration tab in the Discovery Accelerator client, and then click the Settings tab. The new setting is in the Search category of settings.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Enable automatic synchronization of index volumes | Specifies whether Discovery Accelerator should automatically synchronize the index volumes for an archive when it encounters any unknown index volumes during a search. By default, Discovery Accelerator synchronizes the index volumes automatically. |
The computers on which you install the Discovery Accelerator server software and client software have different requirements. The table below summarizes the primary requirements. See the Installation Guide for more information.

In some circumstances, Discovery Accelerator on a remote server with the Enterprise Vault API Runtime can produce the following error after you upgrade to version 10.0.2 of the API Runtime:
"Cannot retrieve item Report this error to your system administrator The type initializer for 'KVS.Common.VaultItem.Item' threw an exception."
The error is displayed on the Review tab in the Preview pane.
If you see this error, you must:
The following messages may appear in the event log when you upgrade to Discovery Accelerator 10.0 from an earlier version of Discovery Accelerator:
Event Type: Error Event Source: Accelerator Service Processor Event Category: None Event ID: 130 Description:
APP AS - Customer ID: 0 - An error has occurred when initializing the Customers. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Procedure or function spConf_Customer_Sel has too many arguments specified.

Locate the <compilation> element and verify that its
debug attribute is set to false. For example:
<compilation defaultLanguage="c#" debug="false" batch="true">
Web.config file.iisreset
If you have enabled FIPS-compliant algorithms on a SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services computer, the following error message may appear when you try to export a Discovery Accelerator report to an Excel format file:
An error occurred during rendering of the report. This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms.
The issue does not arise when you export reports in other formats, such as Portable Document Format (PDF).
You can resolve this issue by installing either of the following:
SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3. To obtain this service pack, go to the following page of the Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=14752
Cumulative update package 5 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2. To obtain this package, go to the following page of the Microsoft Web site:
For more information on this issue, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

When it indexes an archived item that contains instances of the following characters, Enterprise Vault 10.0 does not normalize the characters.
| Character | Description | Keystroke |
|---|---|---|
| Ý | Capital letter Y with acute accent. | Alt+0221 |
| ý | Small letter Y with acute accent. | Alt+0253 |
This behavior differs from the way that Enterprise Vault normalizes other extended ASCII characters. For example, Enterprise Vault normalizes all occurrences of the á character to a, and the ö character to o.
The consequence of this is that, when you conduct searches with Discovery Accelerator, you must include the Ý or ý character in the search term if you want to find words that contain this character. For example, to find instances of the Czech word milý, you must type milý as the search term rather than mily.
When Enterprise Vault archives an item from a Microsoft SharePoint server, it does not populate the item's MsgType property with information to indicate that the item is a SharePoint item. Consequently, Discovery Accelerator identifies the item as a File System Archiving (FSA) item. The following table describes the issues that this can cause and suggests workarounds in most cases.
| Issue | Workaround |
|---|---|
|
When you define the criteria for an export run or production run, you cannot limit its scope to SharePoint items only (the SharePoint check box in the Export Details pane is dimmed). After you have completed the run, the export or production report identifies the items as FSA items rather than SharePoint items. |
Follow these steps to export or produce SharePoint items only:
The resulting items are still labeled as FSA items, but this procedure does let you isolate them from other, genuine FSA items. |
|
An analytics rule in which one of the rule attributes is |
Use the OriginalLocation attribute rather than the MessageType attribute to find SharePoint items. If you are unsure of the value to assign to the OriginalLocation attribute, contact your Enterprise Vault administrator for assistance. |
|
In the Review pane of the Discovery Accelerator client, you cannot filter the items to show SharePoint items only. |
In the item list in the Review pane, display the Original Location column and then use the contents of this column to identify the SharePoint items. If you are unsure how to interpret the contents of the column, contact your Enterprise Vault administrator for assistance. |
